Eligibility FAQs
Can I get a UK work visa without a job offer?
No — the Skilled Worker route requires a confirmed job offer from a licensed sponsor who assigns you a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS). There is no “job-seeker” version of this visa. Start by finding genuinely licensed sponsors — check any employer on the official register before trusting their claims.
How do I know if an employer can sponsor me?
Only employers on the Home Office Register of Licensed Sponsors can. A licence means they can sponsor eligible roles — not that every vacancy qualifies. Always confirm the specific role offers sponsorship with the employer directly.
What English level do I need?
CEFR level B1 (intermediate) — speaking, listening, reading and writing — proved via an approved test (e.g. IELTS for UKVI), a UK degree, or being from a majority-English-speaking country. Some routes are moving to B2 from 2026, so check the current GOV.UK guidance.
How much money do I need to show?
£1,270 held for 28 consecutive days, unless your sponsor certifies maintenance on your Certificate of Sponsorship — many sponsors do, so ask yours. You don’t need to show funds at all if the CoS says maintenance is certified.
Is this a guarantee I’ll get the visa?
No. This checker covers the headline requirements only. The Home Office also checks documents, genuineness, criminality, TB tests (some countries) and more. Treat a “looking good” result as a green light to prepare a careful application — not as approval.
